TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN MATH EDUCATION

Simon Fraser University

The Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University (SFU) invites applications for a tenure stream position in Math Education at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment start date is July 1, 2025 or by negotiation.
Located in the greater Vancouver area, the faculty offers classes on three urban campuses in Burnaby, Surrey, and downtown Vancouver (http://www.sfu.ca) and works with communities and school districts throughout British Columbia. The faculty has an outstanding record in research grants and publications, and in the design and delivery of innovative community-based programs in teacher education and professional development. The Mathematics education faculty members include nationally and internationally renown and award-winning scholars.

QUALIFICATIONS
We seek a colleague who can contribute to our thriving programs in mathematics education. We welcome a dynamic, creative mathematics educator who has an established record of academic scholarship commensurate with the rank.
Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in mathematics education or related field and have a strong background in mathematics. Applicants must have established, or show strong promise to develop, an original, externally funded program of research. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to develop a strong record of publications in refereed journals. Teaching experience in different settings, such as in schools or at the undergraduate level, is expected.
Applicants will be expected to participate in all aspects of our highly respected mathematics education programs: teach courses and contribute to program development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, work with / supervise mathematics teachers at both elementary and secondary levels, supervise graduate students with a broad range of interests, and collaborate with colleagues on research projects while maintaining an independent research focus.
We welcome applicants with a broad range of expertise, including but not limited to interdisciplinary areas such as STEAM, focusing on teaching and learning in various areas in mathematics, critical perspectives in mathematical practices and education, social justice, historical, philosophical, ecological, and cross-cultural concerns related to the nature of mathematics knowledge, practices, products, tools, and methods.

Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for an Assistant Professor position is $104,700 - $133,322.
