Probationary Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, Emerging Technologies

The School of Accounting and Finance in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo invites applications for one permeance track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream.

The successful candidate will focus on data analytics and emerging technology instruction (i.e., artificial intelligence, large language models, machine learning, blockchain, etc.) and its applications in the business world, particularly in accounting and finance. The teaching load is normally 60% of one’s tasks (six courses a year), with service activities in support of the School, the Faculty, the University, and/or the profession amounting to the other 40%. This position will entail significant curriculum and program development in the undergraduate, masters, and executive/professional education.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a university degree in a business-related field, along with significant work experience applying data analytics/emerging technologies in accounting, tax, assurance, or finance contexts. In particular, candidates should possess experience with databases and SQL, data visualization using Tableau or Power BI, coding in R or Python, with an emphasis on predictive analytics, automation, and AI applications relevant to finance and accounting, such as audit automation and financial forecasting. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated strong potential for teaching and academic leadership in a post-secondary setting in Canada. Candidates who can demonstrate thought leadership and are interested in engaging in executive education or pedagogical innovation will be considered positively. While not required, a professional designation in accounting or finance would also be an asset.

The expected start date for the position is March 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting compensation in the range of $120,000.00 to $150,000.00 is anticipated, based on qualifications and experience. Negotiations beyond this range may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
