Qualifications

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to excellence in research and scholarship through high-quality publications in their areas of expertise and help guide research efforts in alignment with Beedie’s strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and a global perspective. They should have the experience or aptitude to contribute to Beedie’s teaching excellence through teaching courses in innovation and entrepreneurship at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to engage with communities of practice and make an impact through their research. In addition, the candidate will actively participate in Beedie’s collegial self-governance and offer support and guidance to students, peers, and the academic community through activities such as committee work, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities, and have the potential to grow into leadership and administrative roles. A PhD focused on Innovation and Entrepreneurship or a related field is required for recent graduates, while senior candidates must demonstrate a strong publication record in the innovation and entrepreneurship field. Industry experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, social innovation, or incubation would be considered an asset.

Qualifications for Assistant Professor

Candidates for the Assistant Professor position must have a PhD; however, PhD candidates with a solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor, with a promotion to Assistant Professor upon completing the PhD. The successful candidate will have a record of publications in reputable journals or demonstrate a strong pipeline of peer-reviewed papers under review. There should also be clear indications that the individual has the aptitudes of a successful teacher, the potential to grow in stature as a scholar, as well as a willingness to play an active role in the University.

Qualifications for Associate Professor

Candidates for the Associate Professor position must demonstrate a proven track record of excellence in research and scholarship. Appointment with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor is possible. Tenure is awarded through a separate process. The successful candidate will have established a clear, impactful research agenda with strong prospects for continued scholarly contributions to their field. Additionally, the candidate should exhibit a commitment to instructional effectiveness, evidenced by teaching excellence and pedagogical innovation. A record of active participation in service, including leadership roles within the university and broader community, is also essential.

• An up-to-date, full curriculum vitae with details of research and teaching, scholarly record, funding, and list of collaborations/partnerships
• A statement outlining the alignment of your research and teaching to the position’s qualifications and to Beedie’s strategic priorities and vision
• A proposed program of research and two examples of the most recent scholarly work
• A teaching portfolio and/or evidence of teaching potential in the area, which may include a statement of pedagogy, prior or proposed syllabi, and evidence of the quality of any prior teaching (e.g. student or peer feedback) and your commitment to improving your teaching practice

Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role at the Assistant Professor Rank is $184,700 - $194,700, dependent on experience and inclusive of a market differential. Candidates with experience commensurate with higher rank may also be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor rank. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role at the Associate Professor rank is $210,142 - $230,142, dependent on experience and inclusive of a market differential.

Candidates for the Assistant Professor position must have a PhD; however, PhD candidates with a solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon completion of the PhD. A reasonable estimate for the salary range if the successful candidate will be starting as an Instructor is $178,340 -$184,700.
