Dean, Sprott School of Business

Carleton University

Carleton University is seeking an innovative, inclusive, collaborative leader as its next Dean, Sprott School of Business.

Situated on unceded Algonquin territory and bordered by the Rideau River and historic Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Carleton University is just minutes from the heart of our nation's government and G-7 organizations, providing opportunities for staff and faculty to make a positive impact in our community and around the world.

As one of the 2024 Top 100 Employers in Canada and a Top 25 employer in the National Capital Region for nine consecutive years, Carleton University is one of Canada’s most resourceful and productive hubs of learning and research, fuelling a rich talent pipeline that is supporting social and economic renewal. The university’s smart, caring and connected community inspires and empowers individuals to become change leaders who drive impact in the world while challenging conventional modes of thinking and doing.

The University’s Strategic Integrated Plan 2020-2025, Share. Serve. Strive. lays out an ambitious vision for the future, anchored in Carleton’s strengths and student-centric, community-engaged values.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), and a member of Carleton’s senior administration, the Dean of the Sprott School of Business provides visionary strategic direction, academic planning leadership, external relations expertise and administrative oversight. The Dean will lead the School to further excellence in teaching and research, continue to raise its impact and reputation both internally and externally, and provide leadership in advancing academic innovation and community partnership initiatives. The Dean will collaborate closely with the three Associate Deans (Undergraduate Programs; Student Success and Recruitment, Professional Graduate Programs; Research and International) and a talented professional staff.

As a key advocate and representative for Carleton and the School, the Dean seeks and develops links within the University and with industry and community partners, as well as Sprott’s alumni nationally and around the world. Across Carleton, the Dean is a visible, collaborative, and approachable leader, forging cohesion and alignment with the Carleton community and encouraging strong links with alumni, industry, and community partners for the benefit of a diverse student body.

The Dean empowers teams to ensure the current and future health, wellbeing, and support of students, staff, and faculty across our campus. In word and deed, the Dean personifies the Sprott School experience of compassion, imagination and purpose.

The ideal candidate for Dean will be an accomplished leader and academic who has demonstrated success in business education, a record of research achievement and understands how to build external partnerships that will benefit the School and University. With proven academic leadership experience and experience in building strong teams, the Dean will possess an open and collegial style, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a creative approach to problem solving and the ability to identify and generate new sources of funding. The Dean will be able to promote excellence, equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization amongst all faculty, staff and students, while relating successfully to external partners. AACSB knowledge will be an important asset for the Dean.
