The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites applications for a Movement Disorders Neurologist with Neurophysiology expertise to be based at the University of Alberta/Kaye Edmonton Clinic. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world's top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada's premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Neurology consists of 60 neurologists in academic and community practice and 3 Scientists. UA is one of the largest stroke programs in Canada. Internationally recognized research is conducted and published from UA. All subspecialties of neurology are represented among the faculty in addition to stroke including: Autoimmune and Multiple Sclerosis, Cognitive Neurology, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular and ALS, Autonomic Neurophysiology, Headache Clinic. We have 5 research chairs within our Division. Neurology holds multiple CIHR, NIH, PCORI and other prestigious external grants. Our Neurology residency program is strong and accepts 5-6 residents/year. We have multiple subspecialty fellowship programs, with the highest number of fellows in Stroke. Overall, we provide a rich training and work environment across Neurology.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Neurology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or qualify to take the Royal College examination in Neurology, or for International Candidates be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) or equivalent and MUST have completed a movement disorders fellowship of 1 year or greater. A graduate degree (Masters or PhD) is an asset. Training in Neurophysiology specifically for movement disorders, surgical treatments in movement disorders and transcranial magnetic stimulation is required.

Individuals interested in the education of trainees and a strong interest in research are encouraged to apply, as the position is a scholarly position, requiring regular teaching and assessment of learners (bedside and classroom), supervision of learners in research projects, supervising research trainees, creation and carrying out of researcher-driven research projects and studies, both independently and as part of collaborative research teams.

Key accountabilities of the Movement disorders neurophysiologist neurologist will include but will not be limited to diagnosis of movement disorders patients, management of movement disorders patients, research using neurophysiology in movement disorders patients, focused ultrasound, and transcranial magnetic stimulation among movement disorders patients. Teaching of neurology trainees and others with interest in movement disorders is required. Supervision of graduate students may occur and is commensurate with job description. The ability to establish and sustain a research program in neurophysiology is required. Candidates therefore should have a publication record relevant to neurophysiology in movement disorders.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
